Quilt Designer

Quilt Designer is a modern organization and sketching app that helps users plan successful quilt projects and inspire their creativity through an intuitive and aesthetic interface. Some key pain points discovered during the user survey include running out of steam on projects resulting in unfinished quilts, indecision on colors/block designs/fabrics leading to low confidence in block designs, and poor organization of quilting supplies.

The design system includes two typefaces. Bodoni for titles and Cabin for subtitle, body, and button text. I chose Bodoni for its classic and elegant feel that also nods to the long history of quilting. The primary brand colors are gold, black, and white paired with a vibrant, inspiring, and fun photography style. We chose the colors to inject the brand with an energetic, confident and unconventional feel.

Inspiration & History

The tradition of quilting may date back as far as 3400 BCE. For much of its history, quilting was primarily a practical technique to provide warmth and insulation. Quilting is now a popular hobby, with an estimated base of twenty-one million quilters. Individual blocks are stitched together to form a whole quilt. Quilters can pull from an archive of traditional block designs or create their own. A typical quilt will have about 20 blocks.
